Petr Cech has today announced that he has signed a new commercial deal with Coty to promote adidas men's body care products. The adverts will appear worldwide in 2009. Michael Essien underwent knee surgery today in France. The operation was a success and he will return to London next week.

Michael Essien suffered a knee injury during his last appearance for Ghana. He has ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament and will undergo an operation as soon as the majority of the swelling has subsided. We expect this to happen in a week’s time. In the meantime Michael has started rehab in the aqua therapy centre at Cobham which will improve the condition of the knee prior to surgery. A return to full fitness is not expected for several months. Michael said: "I am very disappointed to get this injury now and to miss the start of a very important season for Chelsea and Ghana's World Cup qualifiers. I hope to make a full and quick recovery."

Contrary to rumours in the paper today Djibril Cisse will not be signing for Roma. Djibril said " There have been a lot of rumours over the summer linking me to different clubs - I have always said that much as I enjoy playing for Marseille, I would like to return to the Premiership. I feel that the style of football in England suits me better. My agent has had some very positive meetings with Premiership clubs and if the right deal is there, I hope to return to the UK for the new season, but we will have to wait & see what happens in the next few weeks". Djibril was back in the UK at the weekend with his wife Jude for the birth of his son Prince Kobe, who was born on Saturday night.

Djibril & Jude Cisse are very happy to announce the birth of their son Prince Kobe Cisse. He was born late last night, at a hospital in Chester & weighed 7 lbs 11oz. Djibril who was away with Olympique Marseille for pre-season travelled back from France and was able to be with his wife for the birth. Prince Kobe is the couples' second child together. They have a son Cassius 2, and two children from previous relationships, Jude's son Liam, 13 and Djibrils daughter Ilona 6. Djibril said "He is a an absolutely beautiful baby. I have to thank Marseille for allowing me time off to travel back to be with my wife for the birth."

Michael Essien today announced that he has signed a new five year contract with Chelsea Football Club that will see him at Stamford Bridge until 2013. Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech and his wife Martina are pleased to announce the arrival of their first child, a baby girl called Adela Cechova. Born at 6.19am this morning in the Czech Republic, both mother and baby are doing well.
Unfortunately Petr was unable to be with his wife for the birth as he had hoped to be. He is currently with his team preparing for tonight's Carling Cup game against Everton.
